Rosstat analysts found out that according to the results of 11 months of 2022, 510.4 million cans of canned fish were produced in Russia - 4.6% less than produced in the same period a year earlier. During the same time, the production of canned meat increased by 28%, to 742.1 million cans, fruits and vegetables - by 5.1%, to 5.9 billion cans, condensed milk - by 0.6%, to 614.6 million cans.

According to the chairman of the Fish Union, Alexander Panin, the production of canned fish decreased due to reduced consumption and rising prices for raw materials. In particular, over the past three years, saury has tripled in price, and in 2022, pink salmon has doubled in price by 2021. According to Rosstat, the average price of natural canned fish in oil in January-November 2022 increased by 17.4 %, up to 531.7 rubles. for 1 kg.

Ivan Babukhadze, director of the Union of Independent Chains, noted that after suppliers raised prices for canned food and explained this step by increasing the cost of raw materials, people began to choose cheaper protein - chicken and pork.
