The Russians began to eat more meat. Thus, in 2021, the consumption of meat and meat products per person averaged 93.7 kg per year. This is more than in 2019 (90.5 kg). Paragraph got acquainted with such information of Rosstat.
According to the agency, in a number of regions people eat especially a lot of meat. In particular, in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (an average of 143.4 kg per consumer per year), Tyumen (128.9 kg) and Tula (119.8 kg) regions. Belgorod (117.1 kg) and Kaliningrad (114.9 kg) regions follow.
The minimum consumption of meat products was recorded among residents of Karachay-Cherkessia (63.5 kg), Chuvashia (65.2 kg) and the Republic of Tuva (66.7 kg). They are somewhat higher in the Altai Republic (68.7 kg) and the Nenets Autonomous Okrug (73 kg).
In Moscow, one inhabitant accounted for an average of 95.1 kg of meat eaten per year.
Meat products as part of the diet perform an important function - they provide a person with energy and supply his body with animal protein.
In the absence of intense physical activity, he needs to receive about 1.1-1.3 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day with food. For example, a person weighing 70 kg should consume at least 80-100 grams of protein per day, general practitioner Denis Prokofiev told Paragraph.
He noted that the increase in meat consumption by Russians may be due to a physiological need against the background of adverse events that have affected the health of residents.
“There are a number of conditions that lead to the fact that the need for protein in a person increases. First of all, this is a stress factor, this is an injury, these are infectious diseases accompanied by fever, and a thyroid disease called hyperthyroidism. These four conditions require an increased need for nutrients, namely protein. Now we have a serious stressful situation, a large number of infectious and new viral diseases that are accompanied by fever. In my opinion, the increase in meat consumption is associated precisely with these situations, and these are the physiological needs of our body, ”Prokofiev explained.
He added that when calculating the diet and the role of meat in it, several numbers should be taken into account. So, an adult needs to consume 1 kilocalorie per 1 kg of body weight per hour. At the same time, 1 gram of protein corresponds to four kilocalories, 1 gram of fat - nine kilocalories, 1 gram of carbohydrates - four kilocalories.
In general, a person's diet should be distributed in such a way that its energy value consists of 54% carbohydrates, 33% fats and 13% proteins. At the same time, it is recommended to eat certain types of meat.
“It is worth choosing lean meats. These are beef, veal, chicken, turkey, rabbit - mostly either boiled or baked. Priority - a piece, sometimes they can be chopped. The main point is to limit the consumption of meat products in the form of offal. That is, sausages, sausages, prepared forms, already made in the marinade, canned. Because all this leads to excessive intake of salt in the body. And the task is to remove it from the products to the minimum values and get the protein in its pure form, ”concluded the doctor.
