The authorities of Russia’s Stavropol province will create a provincial headquarters to coordinate the export of mutton meat to search for new markets and organize direct export supplies, the Stavropol agriculture department told journalists, as TASS reports.
It said that room for organizing direct export deliveries to countries - importers of Russian mutton, namely Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Belarus is being considered now.
According to the department, the region produces about 13,000 tons of mutton every year, which is almost six times more than the needs of the region. The producers of the region supply to foreign markets about 1,000 tons of mutton. The regional authorities and experts from Russia’s agriculture ministry will be jointly in charge of the stabilization of the sales market.
"The capacity of the domestic market does not allow today to sell products in the required volumes without harming the economy of our enterprises. And with the introduction of regionalization, the sales market for Stavropol enterprises has shrunk by half. In this regard, it is necessary to additionally analyze the market, assess the export potential of the region and increase export volumes,” the department said.
Support for exporters is one of the objectives of the International Cooperation and Export national project, which consists of five federal projects. It is aimed at ensuring a 20% share of exports of manufacturing products, agricultural products and services in GDP, as well as increasing exports of non-primary non-energy goods to $ 250 billion by 2024.
