In his New Year’s Day message to employees, head of Rosselkhoznadzor Sergey Dankvert said that the livestock market in Russia has seen a significant decline in counterfeit products.

“In Russia, the number of counterfeit products fell by an average of 3-4%,” said Sergey Dankvert.

The study found that the adulteration of the most common product categories such as dairy products, eggs, fish products, animal feed, honey dropped by 3-4% on average.

According to the head of Rosselkhoznadzor, a system of electronic veterinary certification Mercury also helps to combat the many actors in the counterfeit market. In 2021, the Rosselkhoznadzor inspectors identified more than 2.8 thousand of fake enterprises through Mercury electronic certification system.

Fake enterprises are businesses that can provide documents showing they manufacture and storage goods, however, in reality they do not produce and storage any goods. Such enterprises are considered unscrupulous organizations that illegally market in various products which may be of unknown origin, low quality and do not meet safety standards.

FGIS Mercury is a Rosselkhoznadzor’s system of electronic veterinary certification which is used by the Russian enterprises to input data on products of animal origin that are produced, transported and sold in Russia. Meat and fish products, honey, as well as all dairy products are subject to electronic veterinary certification.

On average, Mercury processes and issues more than 14 million of veterinary certificates per day. More than 700 thousand enterprises apply for a veterinary certificate every month. The Rosselkhoznadzor inspectors will scrupulously check all submitted applications.
