In Russia, the growth in the volume of production of domestic breeding products in 2024 should be 3% compared to the previous year, and production should increase by another 3% in 2030. These indicators are spelled out in the Strategy for the Development of the Agro-Industrial and Fisheries Complexes of the Russian Federation until 2030, approved by government decree (No. 2567-r).

As follows from the document, a breeding base of genetic resources for 13 types of farm animals has now been formed in Russia.

At the same time, poultry meat in Russia is produced using its own hatching eggs, as well as an imported final hybrid (the share of which tends to decrease).

Suppliers of genetic material are two leading multinational companies that accompany the technologies for growing and keeping imported poultry.

At the same time, Russia is actively working to expand the use of the domestic cross-country "Smena 9" (the market share in Russia is about 1.7%).

“Poultry farms are fully provided with hatching eggs of the final hybrid produced in Russia. Work is underway with the regions where breeding egg poultry is concentrated in terms of strengthening state support for the respective reproducers,” the adopted Strategy notes.

In dairy cattle breeding, the annual import of pedigree cattle is 35-50 thousand heads (93% - Holstein breed).

“The continued need for the import of Holstein heifers is associated with the lack of the required volume of livestock received in the country due to the low rate of animal reproduction (calf yield is 79.5 head), as well as due to the short period of their production use (2.17 calving ),” the document says.

For the reproduction of dairy cattle, mainly the semen of Russian sires is used (7.3 million doses). 4.8 million doses (99% of the Holstein breed) are supplied from abroad.
