The Ministry of Agriculture expects an increase in meat production in the Russian Federation by 12.2% by 2024 compared to the indicator of 2018, up to 11.9 million tons. This is stated in the presentation of the analytical center of the Ministry of Agriculture, presented at the conference of the Cherkizovo group.
As noted in the document, meat production in Russia amounted to 10.6 million tons in 2018, import was 0.8 million tons, export - 0.4 million tons. By 2024, meat imports are expected to drop to 0.7 million tons, and exports will grow to 1.2 million tons. At the same time, according to the results of 2018, the volume of domestic consumption is estimated at 10.6 million tons, and by 2024 this figure could grow up to 11.3 million tons.
“Our meat export is gradually growing, but at the moment we continue to be a net importer of meat: we import meat twice as much as we export. In 2024, I hope we will finally break this burden and become a net exporter of meat and meat products, "explained Dmitry Aveltsov, head of the analytical center of the Ministry of Agriculture.
In turn, the expert on analysis and forecasting of the market of the National Union of Pig Breeders Nikolay Birulin, noted that according to the association’s forecast, the export of pork and other pig products from Russia in 2019 could grow by 15-20% compared to 2018 and reach 100 thousand tons, and by 2022 - up to 200 thousand tons. Moreover, one of the most promising markets, according to his assessment, is China, which accounts for 20% of world imports, Japan (19%), South Korea (10%) and Hong Kong (5%).
According to the forecast of the union, pork production in Russia in 2019 can grow by 4-5%, to 3.886 million tons. At the same time, imports can also almost double, to 130-150 thousand tons in connection with the opening of pork and beef supplies from Brazil at the end of 2018.
