The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia has prepared amendments to the law On Veterinary Medicine. The draft law is associated with a ban on the import of livestock products by individuals from non-EAEU countries. The document is posted on the federal portal of draft legal acts - its discussion will last until June 3. According to RBC news agency, after the adoption of the amendments proposed by the ministry, the Rosselkhoznadzor receives the right to destroy part of the products seized from citizens at the border checkpoints. The bill establishes the allowable rate of imported cheeses and meat products from countries where no infectious diseases of farm animals are recorded: up to five kilograms per person in original packaging.
In April the Ministry of Agriculture and Rosselkhoznadzor supported the initiative of the National Meat Association to restrict the import of animal products and to strengthen control of hand luggage at border checkpoints.
