This year, the demand for poultry products in Russia remains at a high level. As the Russian Ministry of Agriculture reported, this was discussed at a meeting of the operational headquarters.

The ministry said this requires a further increase in the production of edible eggs and poultry meat. They recalled that last year there was also increased demand for these goods, which led to their rise in price. The head of the department, Dmitry Patrushev, noted that thanks to the Government’s decisions to introduce duty-free quotas for the import of eggs and poultry meat, as well as work with manufacturers and retail chains, prices for these products began to stabilize.

Today, both goods are supplied to the Russian market from friendly countries to stabilize their prices and eliminate their local shortages. Russia began purchasing poultry meat from the beginning of the year from Belarus, Kazakhstan and a number of other countries. According to Rosstat, since the beginning of last year they have risen in price by 28.47 percent to almost 197 rubles per kilogram. This became an absolute record at that time. The rise in price was due to the weakening of the ruble, an increase in the cost of services and seasonal factors such as Lent and barbecue season. But the most dramatic increase occurred at the end of summer due to a decrease in production, as well as problems with supplies and their rise in price. This year, poultry meat has risen in price by almost 20 percent. However, at the end of February, prices began to decline. Poultry meat supplies are open until June of this year. It is imported duty free. Export quotas are no more than 1.2 billion units. Supplies of eggs are also allowed for the same period and in the same volumes. They are imported from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Türkiye. Their average cost per dozen already exceeds 100 rubles. President Vladimir Putin apologized for such a sharp rise in price of goods and explained it by high demand, which overtook production, as well as untimely permission for imports by the Government. The Ministry of Agriculture has already agreed with some companies and retail chains to reduce egg prices.
