The Southern Federal District stands out among the regions of Russia with the developed production of poultry meat, in particular, turkey and broiler. This was reported to RBC Rostov by the head of the National Meat Association Sergey Yushin.
“As for the Southern Federal District, it is primarily distinguished by a very developed production of poultry meat, namely, turkey and broiler. Of course, there are also pig breeding enterprises in the region, but still, African swine fever once caused significant damage to their development,” said the head of the association.
The expert also noted that pork production is less popular in the North Caucasus Federal District. So, in the North Caucasus Federal District, this may be due, among other things, to religious restrictions. According to the head of the association, the region specializes in the production of cattle meat.
“There is no tradition in the Caucasus to deal with pork a lot, but as for poultry meat and cattle, the Southern Federal District is poultry, the North Caucasian Federal District is cattle. In general, if you pay attention to the distribution of production by federal districts, then there are practically no special distortions. As the population is distributed, so is production and its specialization, ”added Yushin.
In general, according to the expert, poultry meat production in the South can increase due to the restoration of capacities that previously belonged to the Eurodon plant. In his opinion, this will help increase the production of poultry meat.
“Several companies are engaged in the restoration of production - Damate and others. The main thing is that the power - they are not lost. Production is already recovering there, which is also one of the reasons for the good growth rate this year. In Russia, by the way, by the end of the year, we think that the production of broilers will increase by 4.9%, and pork by at least 5%, this is a very good indicator,” Yushin added.
Earlier, RBC Rostov reported that in 2022 the authorities of the Rostov region planned 300 million rubles in the regional budget to reimburse part of the costs of producing turkey, duck and chicken poultry meat in live weight. Support was planned to be provided at a rate per 1 kg of meat produced in live weight of a turkey - 20 rubles per kilogram, duck - 15 rubles.
