After the New Year holidays, prices for chicken eggs will begin to gradually decline after a long period of serious growth. As RIA Novosti reports, this forecast was voiced by the first deputy head of the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy, Nadezhda Shkolkina.
She gave two reasons for this. The first is an increase in the output of these products, thanks to which domestic producers are able not only to satisfy domestic demand, but also to ensure the necessary volumes of exports to friendly countries. The second is the Government’s decision to temporarily ease the conditions for the import of imported eggs, thanks to which it was possible to satisfy even the current increased demand for these products. We are talking about the abolition of duties on its import from January to June 30 next year for friendly countries. At the same time, the deputy believes that due to the possibilities of providing both the domestic and export markets with food eggs, such a measure should be temporary.
However, Shkolkina noted that prices for chicken eggs in the country are unlikely to return to their previous level. She explained this by an increase in the costs of their production (including breeding material, packaging, as well as electricity and other resources) and an increase in the key lending rate by the Central Bank. Let us recall that the Central Bank increased the key refinancing rate from July of this year from 7.5 to 8.5 percent, and then its size gradually increased to 13. This unexpected decision was made by the bank due to another collapse of the ruble, although it usually does not apply emergency measures due to such a normal market phenomenon. The parliamentarian named another reason for maintaining high prices that eggs are included in the list of main components of dishes on which the culinary preferences of Russians are “tied.”
