The total volume of turkey meat production in Russia in 2022 on all farms increased by 3.5% to 414.5 thousand (hereinafter - in carcass weight). This is stated in the materials of the National Association of Turkey Growers and Agrifood Strategies. Detailed analytics on the turkey market will be presented next week, they specified.

According to the results of last year, the Damate group again became the largest turkey producer in Russia, increasing production from 200 thousand tons to 215 thousand tons, follows from the rating. In January, the company reported that the positive dynamics was due to the systematic implementation of poultry projects in the Penza and Rostov regions. Thus, in the Rostov region, the production of turkey meat increased by 21% to 51 thousand tons in carcass weight. Significant growth is associated with the restart of the turkey-breeding complex with a capacity of 85 thousand tons of meat per year, Damate noted.

Second place in 2022 was again taken by Cherkizovo Group, which produced 80 thousand tons. In 2021, Tambovskaya Turkey, consolidated by Cherkizovo, produced 52.4 thousand tons of products. In third place is PK Ural with an output of 22.8 thousand. In 2021, the company ranked fifth. In 2022, the fourth place with a volume of 21.5 thousand tons was taken by Ruskom Group. The top five is closed by Krivets Ptitsa, which produced 4.8 thousand tons of turkey in a year. The top 10 producers also included Askor (4.7 thousand tons), Belgorodskaya Turkey (4.6 thousand tons), Yuzhny poultry complex (3.9 thousand tons), Egorievskaya poultry farm ( 3.5 thousand tons) and Vostochnaya Agro (3.4 thousand tons).

The executive director of Rincon Management, Konstantin Korneev, said that the cost of turkey production in 2022 increased, as well as in other segments of the agro-industrial complex. “Turkey, unlike other types of meat, is more stable in terms of predicting investment projects. In addition, this is the type of meat that has the potential to grow. The industry as a whole has the opportunity for further development both in terms of the local market and the external one,” the expert believes.

In his opinion, the potential of the market can be unlocked under two conditions: the development of sales channels and the growth of household incomes. Korneev noted that retail now focuses on the "discounter" and "hard discounter" segments, and such formats do not always imply an expanded matrix of the meat group.

According to the forecast of Agrifood Strategies, in the next four years the volume of the turkey meat market in Russia can reach 650 thousand tons per year, the export potential of the industry is at the level of 50 thousand tons per year worth more than $100 million. Analysts of the company estimated the consumption of turkey per capita at 2022 by almost 3 kg per year, which, however, is one and a half times lower than the calculated target levels.
