During the meeting on the development of agribusiness and fisheries held on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin urged to ensure 3% annual growth in production.

“I think, we must set a realistic, reasonable target, which is to boost our domestic agriculture, food production and supporting industries to outstripping annual growth rates, higher than 3%, in the nearest future,” said the President.

This would involve multiplied land development efforts and intensive utilization of new agricultural lands, the President added. Besides that, new digital technologies should be brought into farming, as well as credit availability to support modernization in manufacturing and fishing fleet renewal.

“I expect specific initiatives to be put forward today,” added the President.

Vladimir Putin underlined that special attention should be given to import substitution for seed grains and breeding products, vitamins, feed additives, crop protection agents. “We need to set particular targets for import substitution and persist in their achievement in the nearest future. Considering the potential capacities of our domestic agribusiness, our science, our manufacturing industry, we have all that it takes,” said the President.
