At the Forum of National Achievements, within the framework of the International Exhibition and Forum “Russia”, the Day of Agriculture began. The program of this day will present the history, present and future of the Russian agro-industrial complex - one of the key sectors of the national economy. The start of the thematic day was given by the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Dmitry Patrushev.

During the opening ceremony, Dmitry Patrushev told what changes have occurred in the Russian agro-industrial complex since 2000: the volume of agricultural production increased by 87%; grain and meat production doubled, which provided an incentive to increase food production; fish catch increased by 60%.

“This made it possible to ensure food self-sufficiency in Russia and increase exports by 30 times.” Last year, our country again received impressive harvest volumes, including, according to preliminary data, 147 million tons of grain. Livestock farmers increased milk production by 800 thousand tons and meat production by 300 thousand tons, and fisheries producers ensured the maximum catch of aquatic biological resources in 30 years - 5.3 million tons, said Dmitry Patrushev.

Dmitry Patrushev recalled that since 2000, the Russian agro-industrial complex, with the support of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has transformed from import dependence to self-sufficiency and later to the status of a net exporter. The fundamental legislative step for this was the adoption of the Federal Law “On the Development of Agriculture”, and in 2010 the Doctrine of Food Security was developed, which over time was adjusted to current realities.

Russia's role in international markets has changed dramatically. Today the country is one of the world leaders in the production and export of grain. Indicators for other agricultural crops are also growing steadily: sunflower, rapeseed, soybeans, vegetables, sugar beets, potatoes, noted the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

  - In 2000, export revenue amounted to $1.4 billion, and in 2023 it exceeded $45 billion. During this time, the geography of supplies has significantly expanded. If two decades ago our products were mainly supplied to the CIS countries, now significant volumes are sent to South America, Africa and Southeast Asia. Russia is a large and largely stabilizing supplier on the world market for a wide range of agricultural products. Our country ranks first in the export of wheat and fish, second in external supplies of grains and legumes in general, as well as trade in sunflower and rapeseed oil, and third in barley. Since 2020, Russia has maintained the status of a net exporter of agricultural products and is a reliable partner for many countries,” Dmitry Patrushev emphasized.

Today, there are 4 state programs aimed at developing agricultural production and regulating the markets of the agro-industrial complex, the fisheries complex, and rural areas, as well as the effective involvement of agricultural land in circulation and the development of land reclamation. In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation is a participant in two National projects: “International cooperation and export” and “Small and medium-sized businesses and support for individual entrepreneurial initiatives.”

The head of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that today the state, business, science, industry and related organizations are working together to increase efficiency to further increase production volumes.

- Machinery and equipment are being updated, land is being put into circulation, legislation is being improved, product quality is improving, and the education system is being transformed. To ensure import independence, we create our own competitive seeds and develop breeding,” said Dmitry Patrushev.

He added that a lot of efforts are being made to improve the quality of life in rural areas, infrastructure in suburban areas is being updated, and modern housing is being built. And although there are many tasks ahead, and time dictates new challenges, understanding a common goal will help the Russian agro-industrial complex to continue to move forward.

Among the important tasks for the future, Dmitry Patrushev outlined the development of selection and genetics, biotechnology - the production of enzymes, vitamins and amino acids. As part of the “Agricultural Science” initiative of the Russian Government, it is planned to create at least three agrobiotechnoparks, each with its own specialization. Last year, the first such project started in the Belgorod region with a specialization in the production of enzymes for food products and feed. The development of biotechnologies will make it possible to provide the agricultural sector with a number of positions, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, by 2030.

As part of a special day dedicated to agriculture, Dmitry Patrushev visited regional exhibitions, where subjects presented their achievements in the agricultural sector.

When visiting the stand of the Republic of Mordovia, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and the head of the region, Artem Zdunov, took part online in the opening of a new plant for the production of dry pet food, Good Host LLC. Construction began in December 2022; after reaching full capacity, it is planned to produce 50 thousand tons of products annually. The plant is equipped at a cost of 1.7 billion rubles, equipped with the most modern equipment, and more than 100 new jobs will be created here in the region.

On this day, special attention is paid to those who make a significant contribution to the development of agriculture. The head of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture presented awards to the best workers in the agro-industrial complex. In addition, the minister will also visit the Walk of Fame of Agricultural Workers, which was opened near pavilion No. 51 at VDNKh. This alley has stands where information is presented about outstanding people associated with the agricultural sector: breeders, land reclamationists, botanists, veterinarians, collective farm chairmen, foremen and combine operators. The theme day will include concerts and culinary tastings.
