China, fearing a new round of trade confrontation with the United States, is increasing food imports from Russia - this year, its import first came in second place after oil - contributing to Russia's image as an environmental supplier. Experts told RIA Novosti, how it was possible to achieve such results and evaluated the prospects for further deliveries of products to the PRC.

According to the main customs department of China, in the first five months of 2020, exports of agricultural products and products from the Russian Federation to China grew by a quarter and amounted to $ 1.8 billion. Thus, for the first time in history, food products were second after oil in Russian supplies to PRC.

"China is actively diversifying its food supply channels, because it seems that it is preparing to aggravate the trade confrontation with the United States. In this regard, Russia, whose agricultural industry is experiencing an obvious upsurge, is China's most successful alternative to the United States - this applies to many types of agricultural products ", Said Aghvan Mikayelyan, a member of the board of directors of the FinExpertiza international audit and consulting network.

According to Mikayelyan, Russia is one of the most environmentally friendly countries from China`s point of view. He agrees that this factor, together with the desire to reduce US supplies, contributed to the growth of Russian deliveries of agricultural products and food to China, and the influence of the coronavirus in this case was minimal.

The Russian trade mission in China in June noted the enormous demand for Russian meat from the Chinese side, it received "dozens of letters from Chinese companies, they are all interested in establishing cooperation."
