The Dagestan government does not support the export of live sheep from the republic. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Agriculture and Food Abdulmuslim Abdulmuslimov.

Earlier, the leadership of Makhachkala Airport announced plans to expand and lengthen the runway for receiving wide-body transport aircraft - this is due to Iran’s desire to import live sheep from Dagestan. According to representatives of the airport, Boeing-747 (in cargo version) or similar in size boards are needed for these purposes.

“Dagestan increased the volume of livestock products exported to Iran more than 20 times. But we are against bringing live sheep out of the republic, - the press-service of the administration of the government said. - This is a principled position of the government of Dagestan.  Our farmers export lamb meat, its processing products. Processing products creates added value and, accordingly, allows you to extract more profit, both for agricultural producers and the republican budget. In the case of live sheep exports, the region loses value added and loses potential profit.”

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Products ensures that only processed products are exported from Dagestan. On June 17, in Tehran, at a meeting of the Russian-Iranian working group on interregional cooperation, Deputy Minister of Economy and Territorial Development of the Republic, Gadjamin Ramaldanov, and Dagestan's Trade Representative in Iran, Emin Aliyev, offered Iranian partners to invest in the development of processing facilities in the country - the construction of vegetable stores and meat processing plants. Iranian businessmen supported these proposals.
