In the winter 2019, 40.1 thousand tons of livestock and poultry meat in live weight were produced in the Rostov Region, which was half the amount of January-February last year. 10, 7 thousand tons of finished products were sold, which is 76, 2% lower than last year. According to Rostovstat, in the first quarter of this year, there were 378,500 pig heads in the region - 10.5% less than last year. The number of cattle slightly increased - to 609.8 thousand heads (2.1%). Despite the support of farming, to which, according to Governor Viktor Goncharov, 2.3 billion rubles were allocated in 2012-2018, the number of peasant farms continues to decline. While   there were 12,500 private farms in Don region in 2010, by the end of 2018 there were only 11,000 farms left. Almost all meat production is concentrated in the hands of medium and large businesses. The Ministry of Agriculture doesn`t comment the situation, but notes that a sharp drop in meat production is associated with the ruin of two of the largest Russian poultry companies, Eurodon and Belaya Ptisa.
