Mutton exports in 2018 increased by 26.7 times compared with 2012, and by 2024 it will more than double, said Danila Makarov, head of the department for livestock and breeding of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

 “In 2018, the export of mutton increased by 26.7 times and amounted  12.3 thousand tons. According to the forecast, the export of mutton will more than double by 2024” said Makarov.

According to him, there is a stable positive dynamics in the production of livestock and poultry in Russia. In the past six years the production of livestock and poultry for slaughter in live weight increased by 28.3% or 3.3 million tons compared to 2012 and amounted 14.9 million tons in 2018. In 2019, production is estimated at 15.2 million tons, in 2024 - more than 16.5 million tons.

Cattle production last year amounted 2.8 million tons, up 2.3%, or 63 thousand tons, compared to 2017, including 466 thousand tons of specialized beef cattle ... Expected exports of beef in 2024 will be more than 35 thousand tons.

Production of pigs in 2018 amounted 4.8 million tons in live weight, poultry meat - 6.7 million tons. These figures are higher 5.5 and 0.7%, respectively. than in 2017. The expected export of pork by 2024 will be 274 thousand tons, poultry meat - 638 thousand tons.

The production of sheep and goats over the past six years increased by more than 12% (plus 52 thousand tons compared to 2012) and amounted 477 thousand tons in 2018. In 2019, the production of sheep and goats is estimated at 484 thousand tons, which is 1.5% more than in 2018, Makarov said.
