Vietnamese pigs are banned in Russia

Rosselkhoznadzor temporarily restricts deliveries of live pigs and pig products from Vietnam. Since March 5, 2019 the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) has introduced temporary restrictions on the supply of live pigs and pork products from Vietnam due to the registration of African swine fever in this country. Outbreaks of a dangerous disease are confirmed by official data from the International Epizootic Bureau (OIE). Restrictions apply to domestic pigs, products of slaughter, used equipment for housing, sperm and embryos of domestic pigs. Avangard Agroholding is now targeting markets from Asia, Africa and the Middle East as in Europe "the Halal mark is a peculiar quality mark". Stricter border policing in China as a consequence of African swine fever is restricting the unofficial meat trade, with flow-on effects in other countries, according to the latest RaboResearch Beef Quarterly report. Following the outbreak of ASF in August 2018, the Chinese government strengthened border controls. Rabobank believes the increased enforcement measures have led to the sharp decline in the volume of trade through unofficial channels in Q4 2018. The increased Chinese border enforcement has slowed unofficial bovine trade from Hong Kong and Vietnam.
