Russian turkey meat producer to expand business into lamb

Russia's largest turkey meat producer plans to open a new line of business which will focus on lamb meat production in the Stavropol region after it reached an investment agreement with the regional authorities. The goal of the project is to create a production for fattening and slaughtering sheep with a capacity of up to 15 thousand tons in slaughter weight per year. The company expects to implement the project in a year and a half. Russian veterinary watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor has banned all transit supplies of US poultry products through the country’s territory into Kazakhstan, claiming that some of these products are being re-exported back to Russia, by-passing the food embargo.
