In 2018, Russian meat production continued to increase. By the end of 2018 the increase may be 3-3.5%, or up to 350 thousand tons in slaughter weight.
In the first nine months of 2018, the total meat production increased by 4.6% compared to the same period last year. Growth was also observed in poultry (+ 1.4%), in pork (+ 9.9%), and in beef (+ 6.9%), said Anna Kudryakova, leading expert of the Institute for Agricultural Market Studies (ICAR). According to the Director General of the National Union of Pig Producers (NSS) Yuri Kovalev, in the outgoing year the output of all types of meat will add 3-3.5%, or 350 thousand tons in slaughter weight. About 10.6 million tons will be total production, while a year earlier it was 10.2 million tons, predicts the deputy head of the National Meat Association (IA) Maxim Sinelnikov.
The leader in terms of growth in volumes this year will be the pork sector. According to the NSS forecast, the industrial sector will increase by 9.7% or 230 thousand tons in slaughter weight, which is a third more than a year earlier (7.4%). According to Albert, Vice President of the International Poultry Development Program (UIPDP) Davleeva, the increase in the production of poultry meat will be “record low” - no more than 100 thousand tons (+ 2%). The beef market in Russia is traditionally less dynamic than other meat segments, but in 2018 the industry can add 3-4% compared to last year.
