The country's veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of African swine fever in Soroca.The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received an immediate notification on Friday, 10 March. The outbreak was initially observed on 6 March and confirmed on 10 March after areal-time PCR test was carried out at theRepublican Center for Veterinary Diagnosis. Nearly 50% of chicken meat on Russia’s grocery shelves is contaminated with nitrofurans; a study of Russia’s Quality Agency (Roskachestvo) has shown. In order to protect the health of consumers, this use of this group of antibiotics should be fully banned in poultry feed, the agency now claims. Roskachestvo has already submitted this proposal to Russia’s veterinary regulator Rosselhoznadzor. The Armenian government has adopted a decision wherein the slaughter of cattle outside butcheries illegal, agriculture minister Ignaty Arakelyan said at a Cabinet session. According toARKA News Agency, the minister said the decision will be made mandatory step by step. He said beginning from 1 May 2017, the government will be buying meat from slaughterhouses only.
