Russian wheat prices extended a rebound, capping the best run since April, as farmers charged more for high-protein grain after rains damaged crops there and in major competitor France. Wheat for loading at Black Sea ports rose 1.2 percent from a week earlier to $170 a metric ton as of Friday, Dmitry Rylko, director general of Moscow-based Institute for Agricultural Market Studies, or Ikar, said by phone. The price, up for a fourth week, is for wheat with protein content of 12.5 percent. Russian Pork Farms Raise Safeguards Amid Swine Fever Outbreak

Russia is registering more cases of African swine fever this year than usual, prompting pork producers such as Ros Agro Plc and Cherkizovo Group PJSC to increase safety measures. Outbreaks that took place in households and among wild boarstotalled 182by Aug. 22 this year, which is more than any previous full year except 2013, according to data from Russia’s agriculture agency, Rosselkhoznadzor. Global Pork Prices Starting to Pick Up

Having reached their lowest point for many years earlier in 2016, global pork export prices have started to pick up more recently. Although not perfect, export prices give a good indication of how farmgate prices will have developed on a global basis. Having started the year at a fraction over US$2.30 per kg, the average value of pork traded from the four major global exporters (EU, US, Canada and Brazil) reached $2.52 in June. This was the highest level since last October but was still 12 cents below June 2015. Pigmeat Leads in Rising EU Agri-Food Exports

The value of EU agri-food exports for the 12-month period from July 2015 to June 2016 amounted to just over €129 billion, a 2.1 per cent increase compared to 2014-2015, according to the latest monthly report on agricultural trade. There was notable improvement in sales to the US (+ €2.2 billion), China (+ €1,8 billion) and Saudi Arabia (+ €0.6 billion). The sectors which have shown the greatest gains over the 12-month period are pigmeat (+ €986 million), wine (+ €511 million) and live animals (+ €502 million), whereas there was a notable decrease from the value of 2014-2015 exports for raw hides and skins (- €1.1 billion),.
