Kyrgyzstan bans poultry meat imports from Kazakhstan

Kyrgyzstan has imposed temporary restrictions on the imports of poultry meat and eggs from Almaty and North Kazakhstan due to possible avian influenza and Newcastle disease outbreaks in these regions. The State Inspectorate for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Security of the Kyrgyz Republic said in an official statement that there is suspicion of an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in the south of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in the region of Almaty, as reported by local media. Meat producer Cherkizovo said on Thursday it had found no evidence of safety violations at one of its units which Russia's agricultural regulator said was unsafe and should be temporarily shut down. The FAO Food Price Index is a measure of the monthly change in international prices of a basket of food commodities. It consists of the average of five commodity group price indices, weighted with the average export shares of each of the groups for 2002-2004. Deliveries of livestock products from Kazakhstan to Russia may be banned from November 1

Russian agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor has postponed the ban on shipments of livestock products from Kazakhstan to Russia from October 1 until November 1, Yulia Melano, spokesperson with the regulator told TASS. "We have just held talks with our Kazakh colleagues, we signed a plan for the integration of our two systems, we are rescheduling the alleged ban on November 1, and we expect our colleagues to implement the plan of action we agreed on," she said. The Irish food company opens its first plant in Moscow region with a full capacity of 26,000 tonnes. Kerry Group has been a constant presence in the Russian market since 2006 and now is expanding its business in the region by opening the first plant in the Istra district of Moscow. Production is to start immediately with ingredients for the meat processing and snacks market, informs Food Ingredients First magazine. The plant and the warehouse have been built occupies a site of 7,000 square meters and the full capacity is designed to reach 26,000 tonnes per year.
