  • 9 Feb 11:51

Rabobank makes its predictions for 2018 pork production, exports, and imports in the global market. In Q1 2018, global pork supply is forecast to increase further, mainly driven by the US, Canada, and Brazil. However, according toChenjun Pan, RaboResearch Senior Analyst– Animal Protein, “the most significant story in global pork markets has been the slowing imports into China, which creates a risk of oversupplied global markets. However, we do expect China’s imports to pick up somewhat over the rest of the year, leading the EU, the US, and Canada to continue their battle for China’s pork market in 2018.” Rabobank states that this. Fake meat could soon take over the world

  • 9 Feb 11:50

A big trend in food over the past few years has been finding alternatives to meat that might make the need to rear animals redundant. There is a dizzying array of ways that groups are attempting to achieve this, whether it’s growing beef in a lab from stem cells, or formulating plant-based foodstuffs that mimic the taste and texture of the real thing. One thing that most of these alternatives have in common, however, is that they are not yet commercially available. Many, such as test-tube beef, have not yet scaled production costs to make them viable. Others have big-name backers but are yet to launch a product. The Impossible Burger One exception is the. Focus on thigh meat value

  • 6 Feb 10:30

Up to 36% of the broilers carcass weight out of Western European poultry processing facilities is leg meat. For the most part this ends up in a frozen state on the world market. By that leg meat is greatly undervalued. Focusing on valorisation of thigh meat can be highly profitable. Everywhere around the world the process of poultry slaughter and processing is more or less standardised. That said, the way the end product is valued, differs a lot. Whereas in European countries the main focus is on breast fillets, Asian countries tend to value leg cuts the most. Here it is the breast that end up in the bargain buckets. European processors have a history of putting the legs. Read more...

The WHO has said it should be restricted in animals and banned as growth promoters. Yet, the report found thousands of tonnes of veterinary colistin were shipped to countries including Vietnam, South Korea, Russia and India in 2016 and 5 animal pharmaceutical companies in India are. Russia: No more subsidies for pig farm planning

  • 5 Feb 12:29

The Russian ministry of agriculture has formally indicated that pig farmers are no longer entitled to obtain soft loans for future plans. This is because there is no longer a shortage for pork on the Russian market. That message was shared by Russia’s National Meat Association (NMA) late January 2018. Not a big surprise For many pig producers the latest formal policy change was not a big surprise as it is a confirmation of what many of them already knew. A year ago, Russian agricultural holdings had already enquired with Russia’s ministry of agriculture to cancel the state aid for pig production plans to avoid oversupply. The ministry followed.
